September 2008 Grant Awards

In this round of grants, $2,151 was awarded.

Bev Drexel at Phoenix Middle School was awarded $400 to purchase a classroom library that will be used for instruction and leveled reading in the newly created section of seventh grade language arts.

Troy Combs at Phoenix Middle School was awarded $387 to purchase a Sony Cyber-shot 8.1 Megapixel digital camera and memory stick that will be used by the students in a digital media class.

Travis Cox, Sandy Nourse and Jacquie Schmittauer at Worthington Park Elementary School were awarded $432 to support the Junior Achievement Biz Town Experience by enabling participation of all sixth grade students. Students will learn and apply basic economic concepts through an integrated classroom curriculum by experiencing participation in a 10,000 square foot hands-on learning lab site. After six weeks of preparation work, students will actually set up and run their own city for a day. This grant was funded by the Chamber J.A. Biz Town Fund held in the WEF.
The three sixth grade teachers are at 6th Grade Camp tonight.  Kristy Shannon, a teacher at Worthington Park, is accepting for them.

Julie Payne, Gina Hardin and Allison Kestner at Bluffsview Elementary School received $483 from the Nichols/Hopper Fund to purchase research based materials that were created specifically for students on the autism spectrum.

Beth Mills in Adapted Physical Education at the District Level was awarded $449 from the Nichols/Hopper Fund to purchase the Nintendo Wii-Fit that will promote cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and flexibility for students with special needs.
