Points to Remember during Grant Application Completion

  1. Please fill out and email as an attachment to Clarice Lewis (Email: clewis [at] worthington.k12.oh.us).
  2. The proposal must arrive at WEC by 4:30 p.m. on the deadline date.
  3. Indicate in the upper left hand corner if you want your proposal considered by the Nichols/Hopper Committee. Check their priorities under the Grant Guidelines. If N/H does not fund a grant, it will still be considered by the General Fund Committee.
  4. If your project has another partner for funding, such as a PTA or other grant source, be sure to indicate this in the proposal and budget. The committee recognizes this as a plus in their funding consideration.
  5. Be concise and complete when responding to the seven required items. The fewer unanswered questions the committee has, the greater the possibility the grant will be funded.
  6. Keep in mind that high priorities for funding include these key points: innovative projects, benefit many students, seed money, consistent with district’s strategic plan and building school improvement goals, long-term benefits, and can be continued after the grant period by other funding sources.
  7. The Foundation committee is interested in your innovative ideas and will entertain proposals in a range of dollar amounts. If a proposal is for a larger dollar amount, it is generally the expectation that the grant will impact a larger number of students – a $500 grant might impact a classroom of students whereas a grant proposal of $2,000 would be submitted by a grade level or department team. However, numerous exceptions have been made as grants are reviewed on a case by case basis. Grant funds are not generally available for food, transportation or consumables.

All tangible property purchased with grant funds becomes the property of Worthington Schools and needs to be entered in the district inventory and identified with a WEF label. Appropriate invoices and receipts must be submitted with the final Project Report.

  8. All grants that include hardware or software requests must be submitted to Computer Services for Keith Schlarb’s signature two weeks prior to the grant deadline date. All approved technology purchases will be made through Computer Services. Only requests for web based software will be considered.
