March 2008 Special Project Grant Awards

In this round of Special Project Grants, $6,862 was awarded.

Johannah Benedict at Slate Hill Elementary School was awarded $2,300 to purchase a SMART Board and LCD Projector that will be used to create lessons that are highly interactive. The SMART board will be utilized for whole class instruction as well as individualized and small group instruction for re-teaching and assessing. These high interest and interactive lessons and presentations will follow the State of Ohio’s Content Standards for instruction.

Brenda Toler at the Worthington Education Center was awarded $2,462 to purchase eight NXT Robotics Engineering 1 kits that will be used by students to create and design several different kinds of robots. These LEGO materials encourage critical, logical and objective thinking by students and give them the opportunity to see math and science in a new comfortable light. General education and EPP identified students will have the opportunity to compete in the LEGO League Robotic competitions.

Jacquie Schmittauer, Kristina Shannon and Sandra Nourse at Worthington Park Elementary School were awarded $2,100 to purchase three televisions that will be connected to a computer and used as projection devices in three fifth-grade classrooms. Using these wall-mounted televisions as projectors will allow a wide variety of instructional strategies. Teachers can demonstrate the use of specific software and show how to search on the internet. Website games, website video clips, internet pictures and information can be incorporated into teaching. A large cost savings will be realized compared to purchasing projectors to serve the same purposes.
